Welcome to 2012

With a full belly and frozen toes, I wave good bye to the wonderful Midwinter Feast and look forward to starting a new season full of great events, good friends, good times, and good fights. For me, 2012 is becoming a brand new chapter in the Eldaraenth Books. It is a time when we have grown larger than we have ever been before, with a diverse, and possibly insane group of players. We have spread out across most of Missouri and are even making some footholds back into Kansas.

The Game is strong and growing.

Over the last few years, we've learned a lot of lessons about what it means to run a game like Eldaraenth. We've made mistakes , but we've corrected them. We've had disputes, but we've solved them.

Gowing into 2012, I am at a place where I can really begin to focus on some of the important things that need to be dealt with, some of them small, some of them huge and daunting.

I am thankful that I can do that this year because I have a great group of volunteers who have come forward to support the National Office.

Canaan Rolling, who has been acting as the National Secretary for the last two years now, and mostly filling that role for all time before that, is going to be doing so in an official capacity. Her job is to make sure that records are being maintained properly. That waivers and forms are being filled out, etc.

Lori Moore, who has been helping out with this game in one way or another for something like 15 years, is graciously brining her accounting expertise to the table and helping us handle more official Eldaraenth Business in a more Offiicial Eldaraenth Businessy fashion as our new  National Game Treasurer.

Though it makes me knee cracklingly nearvous to do so, I am leaving the National Storyline for 2012 in the capable hands of Briana Jorgenson, with the back up support of Daniel Frost. There aren't many people in the world who have listened to me rave about the game history and world more than the two of them, and the one's that have aren't volunteering. That being said, Bri is evil... good luck.

For the time being Vic Miller will still be serving in the office of National Combat Marshal. This might be changing in the near future, but for now, let's all hope he'll be back on the field kicking some butt soon.

As always, if you have any game mechanics problems, you can address them to Josh Brotherton, as our Head Game Designer, and if you have any other problems, you can..

well..

You can call Canaan and she'll put you on my schedule. :D

Here's to a big year for Eldaraenth.

There are some changes in store, some big, some small, all for the good of the game.

In the name of Founders, in the name of the Players, and in the name of Eldaraenth,

Huzzah!

2011: National Storyline Part 2 - Surprises in the Night

The hunt was grand for Corstan, he was quickly growing powerful within his flight. If tonight's hunt was successful, he would use it to show his strength and demand the right to prove himself worthy of taking Dadra from her Uncle and begin his own flight. She had even found a new nesting ground to the north. It was nearer to humans than he would prefer for his eggs, but it was a brood queen's right to choose their new rookery. His lips pulled back in a massive grin as he spotted prey below him. He twisted his body and pulled himself short agains the night sky, signaling to his three hunting companions. All three were his flight-brothers, and with the exception of only the youngest, they too had found mates and would be leaving with him if tonight's hunt was a success.

Corstan climbed high into the night sky, shielding his silvery body from below with the whisps of clouds that floated near him. He knew that the Ogre band below him would be blinded to his presence, but his eyes could still see their movements. There were only a handful of them, perhaps five or six, but they appeared to have found something they thought important. He concentrated on the group below him, focusing his eyes to see more. The chest they were gathered around was still sealed but otherwise seemed heavy damage. It appeared that they were trying to smash it open with large rocks. The symbols that had been marked on its surface had been scrapped off almost entirely, but Corstan thought he recognized a moon or some horns.

The decision was a quick one. Not only would he prove himself a great hunter when they brought back five ogers for the flight tonight, but he would also begin adding wealth to the nest. Once again signaling his brothers, he dove straight down breathing in deeply as the wind rushed past him. A few spans above the ground he exhaled sending a fog of lightning down into the ogres below him.

All of them looked up at him with dead eyes, unaffected by the magic in his breath. Corstan tried to turn his weight in the air, but the vicelike fingers already had him. The chest they'd been beating with rocks opened, pouring a dark fog into the night. Corstan roared as he struggled against the weight of the ogres, but despite how small they were they pulled him down father into the that fog. Above him he could see his brothers twist in the sky and dive again, this time with claws forward to rake. He tried to cry out for them to run instead of trying to free him, but the fog pressed into him, crushing out the words. With terror he watched as all three of his fight-brothers crashed down on his captures, each becoming entangled in the fog. His thought about the rookery they were going to begin with the new nest, he hoped Dadra would find a new more suitable mate, and then his mind blanked.
